App of the Week: Wonderful Day Keeps You on Task and Creates Good Habits

    Contents

There are a ton of productivity and task-based apps in the App Store, but Wonderful Day is unique – it lets you list your everyday tasks and then turn the dot to green when a task is completed, forming a ‘success’ chain. The idea is to not break the chain.

First, add the activities or goals that you work on frequently or would like to, like running, going to the gym, writing and blogging, practising the guitar or yoga.

Next, pick the days of the week for each activity. It could be daily, each weekday, weekends or specific days.

Then, after you complete your activity, mark it as ‘done’

With each day getting more ‘done’, watch the chain in your activity chart grow. The challenge is to not break the chain of Green. Once you see your chain growing, it’s hard to stop! Ace your goals every day and keep the Red away from your progress!

The game-like effect of not breaking a link in the chain is a surprisingly strong motivator. Jerry Seinfield was on to something: “After a few days you’ll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You’ll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain.”

Wonderful Day is a very reasonable $.99 in the App Store. Or, you could do as Mr. Seinfeld suggests, and get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page, hang it on a wall, and start a chain by marking off your completed task with a big magic marker. The only downside is that you’ll probably need a separate calendar for each task. That’s a lot of wall space.
