App of the Week: Mobile Computing With SugarSync

    Contents

Similar to Dropbox and Box, SugarSync provides online cloud storage for the files on your computer.

The SugarSync app enables you to access, sync and share your files – documents, photos, music and movies – on your computer right from your mobile device. The app is available for the iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry, and other smartphones.

First, sign up for a SugarSync account, then download and install the software on your computer. Next, assign an icon for your computer and then choose folders to back up on SugarSync.

A “Magic Briefcase” folder is created in your Documents folder with a shortcut to it on your desktop. You can duplicate this for multiple computers, and any file dropped into the Magic Briefcase on your work computer will be copied to the Magic Briefcase on your home computer.

Then download the app to your smartphone and login to access and share your files.

SugarSync comes with 5 GB of free storage which is around 500 documents, 2,000 photos, and 2,000 songs. You can upgrade to paid plans for additional storage starting at $4.99/month for 30 GB up to $14.99/month for 100 GB and beyond.

If you’re just starting out with file syncing tools and don’t use Dropbox or Box, then check out SugarSync with its free 5 GB offering.
