How to Turn Off Skype’s Annoying Features on a Mac – Part 1

    Contents

Skype is amazing. If it were up to me, branding wise, it would have an exclamation mark before and after the name:  ¡Skype!  I’ll shout it from the rooftops.  I don’t care what new VOIP service Google announced today.  I’ve been using it for years.  But more about the good stuff later.

Skype is like an extended family member:  you love it but take it for granted and find it annoying at times. Unlike an extended family member, you can remove those annoyances without causing brain damage.  Here’s my first tip on how to make Skype life better on a Mac:

      Remove annoying notification messages

I checked every setting left and right in Skype Preferences, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to keep the following distracting messages from popping up in the upper-right of my screen:

As it turns out, these popups are caused my an application called Growl that somehow wound up on my machine after years of ownership and random software installations.  To turn these notifications off, look for Growl in System Preferences and uncheck Skype, or any other torturous application.

      And there you go.
