Paint a Magnetic Whiteboard in Your Home or Office

    Contents

Whiteboards and magnetic boards help you collaborate and keep track of ideas and assignments and have become staples in conference rooms and at home. They’re great for brainstorming, mind-mapping, and to-do lists.

Sure, you can purchase a whiteboard or magnetic board and hang it on a wall, but did you know that you can also create a magnetic whiteboard anywhere with just two containers of paint?

First, order a magnetic primer, a base coat that allows you to create a surface that attracts magnets almost anywhere including wood, metal, masonry, drywall, and plaster surfaces.

Next, get a can of idea paint, a dry erase paint that turns virtually any surface into an erasable canvas.

      • Prepare the area like you would for painting by cleaning it and and marking off the area with tape. You’ll need a smooth surface so sand down rough edges.
      • Then apply the magnetic paint, following the manufacturers instructions – usually two coats.
      • Finally, after the magnetic paint has dried, apply the idea paint and allow to dry.

That’s it! Break out the dry erase markers and magnets and get to work.

I’ve seen entire ‘idea rooms’ done in idea paint with magnetic areas. I’ll start with the closet door I have earmarked for a magnetic whiteboard.
