Many major conferences now come with shiny new mobile apps to help you navigate the maze of exhibitors, educational sessions and local sights. But most are bloated, wonky and less than useful, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover the spiffy new app for LegalTech New York.
The first thing that grabs you is its simplicity. The app doesn’t try to be too fancy with a bunch of stuff that no one cares about and will never use. Really, the only two things you need in a conference app are maps and schedules and this does both well.
The standout feature is the simple schedule. Many of the locals get the free Exhibit Plus pass, the plus being access to keynotes, plenary, and other sessions.
As you can see below, the sessions available to the Exhibit Plus pass holders are highlighted in yellow. Useful. (Other conferences, take note: Offer similar passes!).
The app also has the usual bells and whistles like lists of speakers, exhibitors, and, of course, a Twitter stream. It could do without a few other features, like the photo gallery. The “Locate Me” feature is cute, but not terribly useful, and I’m not sure what the LinkedIn icon is doing there.
Overall, a useful app – available for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices. So if you’re at the conference, give it a try, and remember to delete it when you’re done to preserve storage space on your phone.
