New SoloCorps Video Preservation Project Captures Stories of Solo and Small Law Practitioners
Collaborative Online Video Site Chronicles Experiences and Wisdom of Legal Professionals

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) September 8, 2010 Innovative online video sharing site SoloCorps launched recently, dedicated to chronicling the stories, experiences, and wisdom of solo and small firm lawyers through video interviews. The site is at http://myshinglesolocorps.magnify.net.

The SoloCorps project, which debuted in August, is the brainchild of solo lawyers Carolyn Elefant and Lisa Solomon. In addition to maintaining active law practices, Elefant and Solomon are also well-known bloggers, speakers, and writers who regularly contribute to online dialogue surrounding solo and small firm attorneys.

The project and website grew out of a modern-day road trip, as Elefant and Solomon–good friends who first met online–traveled together to speak at bar conferences in Minnesota and Nebraska. As the two planned their trip through America’s heartland, they realized that it offered an unmatched opportunity to create a resource for the solo and small firm community by recording and sharing interviews with lawyers they met along the way.

“As you’ve probably read a million times, the legal profession is in a state of upheaval, with conventional law jobs being lost each day and biglaw on the demise,” wrote Elefant on her noted blog, MyShingle. “Yet out of this turmoil, the solo experience endures and inspires. We want to capture the rich range of experiences of solos and small firm lawyers across the country.”

SoloCorps’ unique and clever concept immediately resonated with cutting-edge legal discourse contributors, picking up coverage and participation from the ABA’s Legal Rebels project and sponsorship from online legal practice management software provider Rocket Matter.

The site currently features interviews with solo attorneys in Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, and Pennsylvania. From September 29 through October 1, Solomon will record additional interviews at Michigan’s 7th Annual Solo & Small Firm Institute in Grand Rapids. Additionally, lawyers can self-publish their own unique stories by uploading video to the SoloCorps site.

Adds Solomon, “I’ve been struck by the variety of experiences and advice project participants have shared. Even the lawyers who were initially hesitant to be interviewed ended up having fascinating stories to tell.”
