Rocket Matter, the pioneering legal practice management software, today announces its plans to move its headquarters to the very site Amazon rejected for its HQ2: Long Island City, Queens.

According to Rocket Matter founder and CEO, Larry Port, his company had been looking to move its headquarters from Boca Raton, Florida to New York City for quite some time. When Amazon backed out of its deal on February 14th, 2019, and the city of New York offered the legal technology company $3 billion in tax incentives, it seemed like the perfect timing.
“Rocket Matter has always been a leader in the legal tech industry, and this was just an opportunity we couldn’t pass up,” Port says. “My executive team and I met with Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo in New York in late February, and we all agreed that Rocket Matter would be an ideal company to develop in the area. We have thousands of lawyers who use our software in New York City alone. Plus, $3 billion in tax incentives is a lot of scratch.”
According to previous news reports, Amazon’s plan was to “build a campus of at least 4 million square feet near the Anable Basin on the East River waterfront, on a site that’s partially owned by Plaxall Realty and partially owned by the city. But rather than going through the city’s extensive land use review process, known as ULURP, the state will take the lead and override local regulations on the lot, currently zoned for manufacturing space.”
Rocket Matter is going to do the same exact thing.
While Rocket Matter will maintain offices in Florida, it plans to create 20,000 new jobs in New York over the next ten years.
“I got my start in technology in New York—I studied computer science at NYU Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and I landed my first tech job at Morgan Stanley in Times Square,” says Port. “I can’t wait to give back to the tech community in the very place that has already given so much to me.”
