Productivity in Your Browser: Extensions and Add-Ons for Lawyers

    Contents

Extensions and add-ons increase productivity by adding new features and enhancing the functionality of web browsers and applications. Here are a few that lawyers will find useful. Some are free standing and others work with apps. Some work with only one browser and others work with all the major ones.
Bestlaw – Billed as a browser extension to add the features Westlaw forgot, Bestlaw copies a perfect Bluebook citation with one click, locates the document you need on free sources like CourtListener, Cornell LII, Casetext, and Google Scholar, and provides one-click copying for citations, titles, and full text.
Zotero – More than a citator, Zotero helps you collect, organize, and share your research sources.
Privacy Badger – Blocks spying ads and invisible trackers. It ensures that companies can’t track your browsing without your consent. I have this installed on my primary browser and look up the few sites that don’t play well with this script on my secondary browser. Ghostery is another option.
Dayboard – New Tab Page – Imagine every time you open a new tab in your browser, your to-do list for the day pops up allowing you to stay on task. Dayboard replaces your new tab page with a daily to-do list and lets you mark completed tasks, and chart your history and progress. This extension is effective to the point of annoyance. Balance it by adding fun to-do’s during the weekend.

Buffer – Quickly share (and schedule to share) useful posts, article, videos, etc, to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+. I forget how I shared posts pre-Buffer. I do remember that it was not this easy.
Pocket – Tabs getting out of control with articles that you’re saving to read? Save what you have open in your browser to view later with this extension.
Feedly – Feedly lets you keep up with your favorite blogs and websites. The browser extension allows you to easily save, tag, share or subscribe to great content as you discover it.
1Password / Lastpass – Login to sites or enter credit card information with one click. Create crazy, secure passwords and store them here. After using either of these password managers you’ll wonder how you managed without it. And you’ll feel more secure.
Copyright Infringement Finder – Find unauthorized uses of copyrighted photos by right clicking on them.
Write Space – A customizable full-screen text-editor that lives in your web-browser designed to minimize the distractions that come between you and your writing.
Evernote Web Clipper – Quickly and easily clip articles, text, and images right into Evernote. This a must-have for lawyers who use Evernote.
Check out these browser extensions and addd-ons and discover some of the ways to customize and enhance the way you do things online.
