So, if you pay attention to productivity blogs you’ll probably be aware that Jerry Seinfeld uses a technique where he doesn’t want to break the chain.
What he does is he takes a calendar and whenever he practices his routines, he puts an X on a day. What he does is he doesn’t want to break the chain of Xs. So, what a lot of people do is they take this idea and they abstract it and they put it towards whatever thing they’re trying to accomplish.
For example, you could take an index card and divide it up into 50 squares and you can put an X on each day that you accomplish certain tasks. So, each day that you exercise, each day that you eat a certain way, or each day that you do not procrastinate or whatever it is, you mark an X. And the idea is that you don’t want to break the chain of Xs and it becomes a very powerful way of reinforcing activity and behavior because nobody wants to break the chain.
The other thing that Seinfeld does that’s interesting is that he practices transcendental meditation. So, he, along with David Lynch and other people that you might find out about later on, some chief executives, they do this as a way to reduce stress and become more productive throughout their day.
Seinfeld, who has been obviously a very successful man, you know a very prolific person, he uses these two techniques to kind of power him through all his stuff and raise his professionalism to the next level.
