    ABA Journal covers Rocket Matter

The ABA Journal, “read by half of the nation’s 1 million lawyers every month”, covered Rocket Matter in the March issue. The article, Mac v PC, pits Ben Stevens (Mac) against Rick Georges (PC). Of Rocket Matter, Ben writes:

“A completely different option that firms should consider is Rocket Matter from the company of the same name. This new time-and-billing and case management product is a Web 2.0 application, meaning that it runs online with no software to install. It works on Macs (and even PCs) and is accessible anywhere with Internet access. So if you have an iPhone, you can access and work with your files.”

Rick is not convinced about web-based software. For some reason, even though millions of people trust their entire financial lives to online banking and mutual fund web access (for ten years), Rick is wary of the web. This argument may have held up in 1995, but in 2008, with wide acceptance of web applications in healthcare, financial, HR, and other industries, I’m afraid it falls short. With a 128-bit secure encrypted channel, nightly backups, and a host of other lockdown security features, the truth of the matter is your firm’s data is under lock and key. Most security breaches are very low-tech. Who’s in your office late at night emptying those garbage cans?
