Happy Star Wars Day! Rocket Matter Celebrates May the 4th
For those who are unaware, May 4th is known as “Star Wars Day”. Why this day? Simply say “May the 4th Be With You” out loud and you’ll hear the pun. It’s a day that everyone gets to celebrate the truly epic saga of Star Wars that has since united generations of loyal fans.
The employees at Rocket Matter are no different. With the release of Episode 7: The Force Awakens this past December and the release of Rogue One later this year, the Rocket Matter employees thought it was the perfect time to begin a lasting tradition of celebrating “May the 4th”.
A love of the franchise and all things space-themed has lead to the company’s inaugural “May the 4th Celebration”, complete with a costume contest, Star Wars themed food and prizes, and the music of John Williams blasting proudly throughout Rocket Matter HQ. It was a way for the staff to come together to show off their Star Wars knowledge, dress in strange outfits, snack on some great food, and bond with their co-workers. Even Rocket Matter CEO Larry Port got involved with the festivities, dressing as General Han Solo complete with Nerf gun blaster.
While “May the 4th” may seem like a recent concept, the idea actually dates back to 1979 when it was used in popular culture by author Alan Arnold in an article written about The Empire Strikes Back. Its grassroots traditions have carried on for decades, and the proliferation of the Internet has allowed Star Wars fans all over the world to connect with one another in celebration of “May the 4th”.
