What's Red Nose Day and How to Celebrate

    Contents

You might have heard a lot about Red Nose Day and thought to yourself, “What the heck is that?” Well, it turns out it’s charity that’s all about having fun while helping children living in poverty.
In 2015, the non-profit organization Comic Relief Inc., launched Red Nose Day in the United States (previously it launched in the UK in 1988.) Its goal is to end child poverty in the US and in some of the poorest areas in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Globally, Red Nose Day has raised more than $1 billion since its inception, and it has benefitted people in need in 25 countries, including every state in the US.
What’s more: the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation  will match every dollar earned through Facebook fundraisers up to a million dollars! And celebs are even joining in on the fight against poverty. For instance, check out this Ed Sheeran video or these hilarious videos by Key & Peele, Jack Black, and Paul Rudd. NBC is hosting a star-studded special to benefit the charity, while the Empire State Building along with other iconic buildings will be lit red to honor the day.
Red Nose Day 2017And a bonus for those of you who loved Love Actually (you know, one of the greatest movies of all time!): Two lucky donors will not only get a free trip to London, but they’ll be met at the airport by Andrew Lincoln  holding a sign, go on a tour with Andrew and Richard Curtis, and meet Keira Knightley for tea!
Where can you get a red nose? Any Walgreens or Duane Reade location. You can also make a donation online.
But the big question: What do you do with the nose? Well, in our house the answer is usually clear: Dress up time for the pets! However, that doesn’t always go as planned. (Someone refused to cooperate!)
Of course, Red Nose Day aside, lawyers can help fight poverty in many ways. Check out this article on the American Bar Association site for some great suggestions.
