App of the Week: Songza – Music to Fit Your Mood
Music is a big part of our lives. We use it to get us though an hour-long run around the park, thirty minutes on the elliptical machine at the gym, and to get our dance groove on. Music even makes us better at our jobs!
The only problem is you have to take the time to create and update playlists for each category of activity – gym, work, play, relaxing, and so on. Well, no more. Songza does it for you. Simply pick an activity, choose a genre, and Songza plays you music to fit your mood.
Doing something special? From the Concierge screen on iPhone or iPod Touch, shake your device and tell Songza exactly what you’re up to; Songza will then find the right music to make it better. For example, you could enter ‘Entertaining’ and Songza will find you music to soundtrack the perfect party.
Prefer to search for music by your favorite artists? Go ahead and you’ll get a curated playlist that features them.
You can save your favorite playlists and share the love via Facebook, Twitter or email.
If you’re on the website or app, Songza recognizes the time of day – “Friday Late Morning,” “Saturday night” – and presents time-appropriate “moods” or activities. Cool feature.
If you prefer activities that are not suggested, a long list of activities is a click away. It includes “barbecuing” and “coding” to “energy boost” and “rainy day.” You don’t want to be in the mood for the “breaking up” playlist.
Songza is free and available for devices on iOS, Android and all the major platforms.
